Jiu Jitsu origins can arguably be traced to Buddhist monks of India, or even back to the earliest forms of grappling which was immortalized on the walls of both ancient Greek and Egyptian ruins. Jiu Jitsu (sometimes referred to as “Ju Jitsu”) in its modern form comes from Japan. Jiu Jitsu was the battlefield art of the Samurai of Japan. It has now moved across the world, with a popular form coming in Brazilian Jui Jitsu, however the roots of the art stem from Japan.
Jui Jitsu is one of the earliest martial arts to be taught, and is focused on sophisticated grappling techniques to take down an opponent. The actual definition is “Gentle Art” using the principles of leverage, angles, pressure and timing, as well as knowledge of the human anatomy. Through a combination of dynamic and explosive movements with pressure based pushing, holding and pulling, makes Jui Jitsu a great way to increase strength, heighten your body awareness, promote weight loss, build muscle tone, as well as improve balance and reaction times! Jiu Jitsu was designed and developed specifically so a smaller, weaker person, can defend themselves or even defeat much larger and stronger opponents. Its techniques and benefits can be seen first hand, and with practice brings confidence to any practitioner regardless of age, size, or gender.
Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be both exciting and bewildering. That’s why at Fit Boss we have created a way for anyone to enhance their Jiu Jitsu practice from beginners to advanced pros.
